These plaques, which list the servicemen of Winnebago County who died during what was then known as the Great War, were originally placed on the north side of the Commercial Bank building, at the corner of Main and High, in 1921, with the dedication on February 22. They were moved to the south facade of the Winnebago County courthouse in 1981 through the efforts of the Oshkosh Veterans Council which felt that a government building would be a more appropriate location than the side of what had become a retail store.
