The Ebenezer James House is a brick structure, built in the Italianate Style with large wrap around porch and brackets under the eaves. There is a belvedere at the top of the roof. The property is surrounded by a wrought iron fence and brick retaining wall. The house was built in 1860 at 226 High Street in Oshkosh. Ebenezer James was born in Pennsylvania in 1825. He died in Oshkosh in 1912. He was a pioneer lumberman, manufacturer, and merchant. He and his wife Mary J. James (born 1838 in Ohio and died in 1885 in Oshkosh) had seven daughters (Sarah, Clara, Mary, Martha, Harriet, Kathryn, & Charlotte) and one son (William).
