The William Hill & Company building was built in 1876 that sold dry goods and carpeting which is one of the only stores that sold carpeting. Before the building was built William Hill was a butcher and operated a business known as ‘The People’s Market’ that sold fresh meat on No.3 Algoma Street. William Hill first got his name out there by gambling and betting. William Hill created one of the most popular and one of the only carpeting stores in Wisconsin because they were not really that popular at the time when the building was built. William Hill’s name is still remembered in that building for how much he did in that building and also what he did with the carpeting and selling the dry goods. When he was around there was a logo that was there for a while but the building has changed so much from what it is now so it is no longer there anymore. William Hill has a lot of background having to deal with businesses and buildings he plays a big part in the building he built. William Hill has a good background because he has owned a couple of businesses and has done a lot to have to deal with the old buildings and the new ones a lot of people they own or go to those buildings know about William Hill and what he did with those buildings. William Hill is a big part when having to deal with important buildings on Main Street.
