The sky is a dark indigo color with no cloud in sight and the stars shine bright. The large white columns standing tall supporting the structure of the building. Birds fly fast above you and then out of sight. It’s cold today and the leaves on the trees are falling to the ground. The many lights surrounding the building and reflecting off suddenly make you not scared at night. You are calm.
Walking up the stairs you feel pleased, happy, free, the best you could feel. The feeling of the cold railing against your fingers gives you goosebumps. You look down at your feet moving up stair by stair. As you raise your head at the top of the stairs, it feels as if you’re life is in slow motion at the moment. Look to the left and right seeing Sawyer and Harris, the lions. Looking so realistic as if they could just jump out at you. Standing tall on their ledges as if they are there to protect the marvelous building that is behind them. They don’t scare you, they give you the feeling of being safe, protected. The feeling of being safe and sound in your own bed. Funny how this one place can give you such good feelings.
You walk in and it’s as if you’re home. As if it’s where you belong. All the people scattered around the building are quietly reading, just wonderful. This is a stress free zone. With never ending choices of books to read. Sitting down on a comfortable chair, looking out on downtown Oshkosh from the windows, just reading. That’s when you’ll know the Oshkosh Public Library is the place to be.
